BYOB: Build your own business!

by Donna Sneed on 09/03/11

If you desire to start a business, it is very important to "count the costs" before proceeding with your vision.  Be sure you consider the time necessary to put into the hard work, research and financial weight that owning a business may cause.

I don't want to discourage you from stepping out.  I only want you to really think about what you will be up against.  Business ownership is great; even in this economy.  It will take great effort on your part to find your (creative) niche and work it baby, work it!

Your product or service must be above and beyond the works of everyone else.  Seriously.  It takes extra commitment to stay on top of the latest trends and always put out your best when others are doing the "norm."  You may have to cut away from some people in order to spend some time in creative-mode.

I know that could be difficult to do but those are some of the sacrifices that may be necessary for you to have a successful business.  You want to grow your business?  Keep your vision in view and let nothing deter you from it.

Remember, no one is going to be more excited about your business like you.  Do not get discouraged when those close to you don't leap with excitement when you share your heart.  The vision was given to you.  Let no one or nothing keep you from enjoying the journey to owning your very own business.

Research. Research. Research.
I cannot say this enough.  It is very important to spend quality time doing research before you go out and get the business license.  Trust me... you'll be happier with more information (than needed) ... than none at all.

Continue to write the vision and make it plain.  Others will come to you as long as you continue to provide excellent products and services.  Good customers will come back and tell others about you as long as your remain consistent.

Utilize social media and networks to promote your business and "brand" your name.  Offer FREE products or services every now and then to show off your skills.  A website is a MUST these days so step it up, believe in yourself, and get with the program.

If you always do what you've always done.. you'll always get what you've always gotten.  It is time for a change of heart and mind.  Make some connections.  Don't be afraid to meet new people and one more thing, sow seeds into other businesses, owners, and individuals who have what you need.

What do I mean by "sowing seeds?"  I mean, spend some money, time and effort into the lives of others.  You will see it come back to you in many ways that will be a blessing to you.

Until next time,
"Mind Your Business!"
